Suburban Renewal | Design New England Fall 2014

A daring reinvention of a humdrum split-level west of Boston fulfills a couple's quest for a modern home.

Architect Andrew Sidford took a grim home in the woods and reimagined it, adding a glass and steel "implant" that extends beyond the home's foundation, giving the homeowner her wish of seeing the stars and the moon from bed. Although the post-renovation footprint of the home is smaller than the original house, it feels much more spacious. The modern updates include the millwork, which was done by Herrick & White.
